Ministering Spirits

Read the following verses from Hebrews 1:13,14:

But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? 14Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Now ask yourself, "Do I live as if angels actually minister to me in our twenty-first century?"  Look at that verse again. Who are the angels sent to minister (aid, offer relief, offer their services) to?  They are sent to minister to you--to you who will become heirs of salvation.

This is not a future, but a present ministering to.  When the author of Hebrews writes that the angels will minister to those "who shall be heirs of salvation," he is referring to those presently on the earth who will one day receive their inheritance.  But do we truly know what this means?  Do we truly live as people with angels as their servants?  Servants!  Yes, angels in heaven are the servants of those belonging to God.  Here are ways angels have served God's people in the past:

Matthew 4:11 - Jesus had angels who brought him food after forty days of fasting.

Psalm 35:5,6 - David prayed that the angel of the Lord would chase and persecute his enemies.

Daniel 10:5-21 - An angel came to give Daniel understanding of God's word.

Acts 12:7-11 - An angel took off Peter's chains and released him from prison when prayer was made for him.

2 Kings 6:15-18 - These verses are really incredible.  An army was coming against the city Elisha was in.  Elisha's servant was fearful.  Elisha maintained his peace and prayed to God that his servant might see what he saw...and he did.  He saw a host of angels who would fight for them.

God is renewing our faith in preparation of a battle that has begun.  It is a faith which walks in the world of the spirit--for God is Spirit.  It is a faith which has given up the pleasures of this world for the pleasures of God's word and the hope that is found therein.  It is a faith that can rejoice in the midst of adversity; know it is rich though all has been taken away; suffer the rejection of men in favor of the acceptance of God; and face death with rejoicing knowing that eternal life awaits.

God is renewing our faith to see as Elisha sees so that when a great host comes against us, there is no fear... for we see our servants with us.

Until next time....
Be so much the more, as ye see the day approaching
